  1. I have this compressed .avi thats 40 minutes long.. Its like 200 megs. I can watch it easily.. in .avi format. But when I try to convert it to mpeg, the video stops after 10 seconds. Don't know whats wrong. I'm using tmpgenc to do the encoding. The preview window stops at the same point as well. :\

Try running it through VirtualDub Mod. It may have corrupted frames that VD can find. Also check the audio with AVIcodec. May be MP3 VDR which TMPGEnc chokes on. If so, save the sound as a WAV in VD and try that with TMPGEnc.

  5. well I'm sure of it...You can convert to mpeg1 or
vcd with the resolution that you want
(((When you choose mpeg1 click the button
-Advanced- and it will give you a lot of choices
    in resolution and framing )))

Probably something is wrong with the avi

Open it in virtualdub select video-> direct stream copy, audio-> direct stream copy and save as avi with an other name. This will just create a duplicate copy of your file but it would probably correct sync or timing problems of the original. Then try to encode the resulting avi.

If this doesn't work try this

If virtualdub can open and play the whole avi you can also frameserve it to tmpgenc (if for example you don't have the disk space to create the duplicate).
